Meet Anum Ameer

Syeda Anum Ameer is a software engineer turned graphic designer. Despite her background in software, Anum believes she is an artist at heart. Hence, her artistic inclinations are the reason she is in the world of digital design today. With almost 5 years of experience in the design industry, Anum has a command on her craft. She has been a part of multiple certifications and workshops on design nationally and internationally. Moreover, Anum believes in youth empowerment and helping the women around her find their voice. Therefore, she is the CEO of the creative venture ARTY, that is an art platform empowering youth and women.

Anum Ameer and ARTY

ARTY, as the name suggests it deals with everything related to art and crafts. Anum describes ARTY as a platform that showcases artwork of different artists and sells it for them. In this way, ARTY is not only helping artists monetarily but also providing them a platform to launch from. Another noteworthy thing about ARTY is that it aims to empower youth and women.

“There was a time in my life when I felt I was making everyone happy except for my own self. Then I decided I would do something for myself. I wanted to make my life colourful. Therefore, I laid the foundation for ARTY.”

Patriarchy and IT Industry

Patriarchy is prevalent all around the globe. We see it in our own society and even in our homes, says Anum. It is deeply ingrained within the fabric of our society. IT is a male dominating field. Thus, there are a lot of challenges present in this field for women. Anum tells the audience about the gender biases present in IT such as comparison with male counterparts. Moreover, she brings the audience’s attention towards the lack of acknowledgement and appreciation for women not only in offices but also in homes. Anum says that even in the 21st century, there’s a lot of stigma attached to working women. Furthermore, Anum lays bare the issue of workload on women.

“Women have to work twice as hard. It is because they have to fulfil their work as well as home duties.”

Technology and the world of Art

Technological advancements have their advantages and disadvantages. However, the question is do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages or vice versa. In the recent years, Anum believes, the world of art has digitalised. There are numerous ready made applications available, says Anum. While these apps provide templates and sample designs to help accelerate the design process, they also hinder creativity.

Anum Ameer’s Message

Anum is an active advocate for women and youth empowerment. She encourages the people around her to find their skill, polish and put it to use. In addition, Anum advices youth to widen their horizons and make their own way in the world.
