Sham e Adab – an evening dedicated to Urdu literature

Daastan has been arranging weekly live sessions and online events throughout the pandemic in attempt to uplift the spirits of everyone who has not been feeling too good! We have also encouraged many writers to make use of their time at home and write that book which they never got the time for. Team Daastan is proud to announce the success of its first ever literary meet-up/Urdu book launch in Lahore.

Sham e Adab

Shaam e Adab’- an Urdu literary meet-up was hosted by Daastan where our Season Winning authors signed their books for the readers and had an interactive session with the audience about Urdu literature. The event revolved around appreciating the beauty in our local language and celebrating our culture. Being an avid Urdu reader- we all have, at some point or the other- read or heard of the famous Urdu novel ‘Pyaar ka Pehla shehar’ by Mustansar Hussain Tarar. Maira Anwar -an author at Daastan- wrote the third sequel: ‘Pyaar ka teesra shehar’ and released it on Sham e Adab.

Young Women Writers Forum

YWWF was established on International Women’s day, on 8th of March 1994 by Ms. Bushra Iqbal Malik in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Initially the name was Sarhad Women Writers Forum and was later changed to Pak Women Writers’ Forum (PWWF) or Young Women Writers’ Forum (YWWF). In 2014 Young Women Writers’ Islamabad chapter was started and now they have Lahore , Karachi, Hyderabad and Bahawalpur chapters which are serving the talented young female writers of the country.

Our Chief Guest – Ms Neelam Ahmad Bashir

We were joined by the very famous drama-writer/scriptwriter Neelam Ahmad Bashir, making the event much more memorable. This was followed by a singing performance and Ommer’s wonderful introduction about Daastan. Ommer- the founder of Daastan- talked about how he had created a platform to encourage all the writers out there who need a push to achieve their life long dream. Through the hard work and endless effort of Ommer, Daastan is able to successfully host events like ‘Shaam e Adab’ and publish authors from all over Pakistan.

Since ‘Shaam e Adab’ was a roaring success, Daastan plans to arrange more literary meet-ups where you can meet new and old authors. If you are a writer in the making, don’t forget to check out our Instagram and Facebook live sessions with authors for some helpful tips and great advices.
