{"id":5757,"date":"2020-07-23T12:22:48","date_gmt":"2020-07-23T12:22:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/daastan.com\/blog\/?p=5757"},"modified":"2020-08-17T18:26:38","modified_gmt":"2020-08-17T18:26:38","slug":"bedtime-stories-a-story-writing-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/daastan.com\/blog\/bedtime-stories-a-story-writing-workshop\/","title":{"rendered":"Bedtime Stories &#8211; A Story Writing Workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite the <em>numerous<\/em> difficulties created by the COVID19 <em>Pandemic<\/em>, there is one aspect of the lockdown that a lot of people have taken <em>advantage<\/em> from. <em>Free time at home!<\/em> Men and women took a break from their busy work life. Some people used this time to work on themselves<em> spiritually<\/em> while others learnt <em>new skills<\/em> like cooking, painting at what not. And we took this opportunity to conduct a <em>Story Writing Workshop!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We saw how<em> school-going children were being b<\/em><em>ombarded<\/em> with home assignments and online classes.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/daastan.com\/\">Team Daastan<\/a> felt the need to brighten up this mundane school schedule for the students of <strong>Beaconhouse Satellite Town Rawalpindi &#8211; Senior Girls Branch<\/strong>. Emphasis was laid on <em>stages of writing a story<\/em>. As discussed, the starting must have some <em>action or conflict<\/em> that will drive the story forward. The middle of the story must be focused on the main character struggling to achieve the conclusion which will be set by the end of the story after the <em>climax<\/em>. But this was not all. There was a <em>twist<\/em> that kept our audience glued!<\/p>\n<p>We talked about the <em>villains<\/em> of our stories. Students were asked to sketch the villains of their stories. To give them an idea, our team discussed the issue of <em>plagiarism<\/em>. For this session, our topic was <em>Heroes of Tomorrow<\/em>. We introduced the idea of <strong>Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDG)<\/strong> as the superpower of the heroes of the future. Our team members explained what SDGs are, listed them and asked students to choose an SDG and make it the <em>superpower<\/em> of their protagonist. The preliminaries of writing a short story was discussed too.<\/p>\n<p>We received amazing stories from the students which we will be publishing on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meraqissa.com\/\">Qissa<\/a>. The main idea behind this activity was to engage students in learning through stories. Sometimes, we forget how small things leave a huge impact on our thinking. <em>Reading<\/em> books should be valued by parents and teachers. The lessons we learn through a story forms our values and stays with us for a long time. <a href=\"https:\/\/daastan.com\/\">Daastan<\/a> is struggling to <em>establish<\/em> and <em>reinforce<\/em> reading and writing in the younger generation.
