It may not guarantee a <em>victory<\/em>, but it sure <em>assists<\/em> in the fight! You would also undoubtedly have lesser wounds. Journaling, for me, has always been a sort of an outlet for my emotions. A few years ago, while I was going through a hard time, a friend gifted me a journal on my birthday. It was the start of my <em>journaling journey<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2>How Journaling Can Help Your Mental Health<\/h2>\n<p>The first step to a <em>healthy mind<\/em> is to <em>identify<\/em> and <em>acknowledge<\/em> your feelings. Writing them down helps out in the process. How? You might ask. <em>Tracking<\/em> your emotions and logging them routinely might help you figure out what triggers a certain emotion. Consequently it would become easier for you to manage it. Moreover, it will also be easier to maintain distance from situations that are <em>toxic<\/em> for you once you have <em>identified<\/em> them. Similarly, you will be able to do more of what you enjoy doing and which<em>\u00a0truly<\/em> makes you happy.<\/p>\n<p>At times when there is plenty going on in our lives, we tend to overthink and stress out about it. Writing down our concerns can help <em>detangle<\/em> thoughts that could have possibly been taking a toll on our mind. It helps get us in touch with our <em>internal selves<\/em>. Studies have proven \u00a0that <a href=\"https:\/\/intermountainhealthcare.org\/blogs\/topics\/live-well\/2018\/07\/5-powerful-health-benefits-of-journaling\/\">journaling for as less as <strong>15-20<\/strong> minutes per day<\/a> for four days a week has positively impacted many major mental disorders: <em>Depression, anxiety, eating disorders <\/em>and<em> ADHD.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>How To Start?<\/h2>\n<p>A lot of times starting a new activity is much harder than developing it as a permanent habit. That\u2019s why we\u2019re here to help you make this as fun as it can possibly get!<\/p>\n<h4>1. Buy A Journal<\/h4>\n<p>Of course, the first step would be to <em>buy<\/em> a journal. This might feel like a not so important step but it can incredibly impact the following steps. The <em>cuter<\/em> the journal, the more I personally look forward to use it. Experiment<\/h3>\n<p>If you do not feel comfortable writing with a pen or paper, <em>experiment<\/em> with various techniques! Try using your notes app on your phone or maybe your laptop or an IPad. Scribble, doodle, make a collage, color the pages or just copy down anything from the internet which <em>inspired<\/em> you that day!<\/p>\n<h3>3. Be Consistent<\/h3>\n<p>Spare 15 minutes every day where you sit in a calm environment (maybe light some lavender scented candles) and write whatever you feel like writing. Different people have different ways of expressing themselves and releasing stress. We\u2019ll discuss what exactly you could try writing as we proceed so don\u2019t worry about it!<\/p>\n<h3>4. Relax! It&#8217;s Your Me-time<\/h3>\n<p>Do not treat it like a<em> task<\/em>. It is more of a form of <em>meditation<\/em>. This is super important to understand. Think of it as your \u201c<em>me time<\/em>\u201d where you can be whoever you want to be. If it feels like a task to you then you should perhaps try various <em>other<\/em> methods of journaling!<\/p>\n<h2>What To Write In A Journal?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Every day, list down three things that make your <em>heart feel full<\/em>. Then list down things that you were <em>afraid<\/em> to try out on that certain day but you would want to muster up the courage to try them out one day.<\/li>\n<li>Note down situations that were in any way or form <em>toxic<\/em> for you and once you have identified them, try to <em>avoid<\/em> such situations.<\/li>\n<li>Try using the <em>stream of consciousness<\/em> writing style. In this writing style, you could write down your <em>thoughts, emotions <\/em>and <em>feelings<\/em> in a continuous and uninterrupted flow. Basically, write whatever comes to mind.<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes, individuals substitute ranting to a friend with ranting to their journal! You\u2019ve had a bad day and there\u2019s no one that you could pour your heart out too? Guess who\u2019s always going to be there? You guessed it.<em> Your journal!<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Of course, you could use your journal to log your <em>sleep cycle<\/em>, your <em>water drinking cycle<\/em> and you can <em>schedule<\/em> your daily activities too!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Organise Yourself!<\/h2>\n<p>Journaling can also be used for other purposes. Many people use their journals to make <em>to-do lists<\/em> before starting their day. This does not only assist them in <em>remembering<\/em> all their tasks but also <em>boosts<\/em> productivity. Crossing off the tasks that have been carried out provides a sense of <em>accomplishment<\/em> to an individual. This particular sense of accomplishment makes the individual want to <em>achieve more<\/em>.
