This means the ability of a person to <em>comprehend<\/em> and <em>use language<\/em> to achieve goals. Linguistic intelligence is a component of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gse.harvard.edu\/faculty\/howard-gardner\">Howard Gardner<\/a>&#8216;s theory of <em>multiple intelligences<\/em>. According to this theory, intelligence can be categorized into many kinds based on the <em>abilities<\/em> and <em>talents<\/em> a person possesses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>These talents include <em>visual-spatial<\/em>, <em>linguistic-verbal<\/em>, <em>interpersonal,<\/em> <em>intrapersonal<\/em>, <em>musical,<\/em> <em>naturalistic<\/em>, and <em>logical-mathematical<\/em> <strong>IQ<\/strong>. Although this theory has met its share of criticism, it is still very popular with educators. If used properly, this approach can yield numerous benefits within the classroom. Today, educators lay a great emphasis on <em>linguistic-verbal intelligence<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3>Strive, Not Just Survive!<\/h3>\n<p class=\"normal\"><span lang=\"EN\">While the main focus these days is just getting through the day with your child\/children, it is just as important to make it about <em>growth <\/em>and<em> development<\/em>. Take a step back and assess what motivates your child. What gets his\/her mind ticking? The answer to these questions can help you judge what personality your child has and ultimately what type of intelligence is dominating in him\/her. <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">Providing activities and exposures that encourage that specific strength can have an enormous impact on growing their intellectual capability.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span lang=\"EN\">Signs of an Exceptional Linguistic IQ:<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Children and adults with a strong linguistic intelligence are good at reading, writing and using words to explain their thoughts and ideas. They usually have the following characteristics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remember <em>written <\/em>and<em> spoken<\/em> information well<\/li>\n<li>Enjoy<em> reading <\/em>and <em>writing<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Are good at <em>debating<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Are good at <em>explaining<\/em> things<\/li>\n<li>Use <em>humor<\/em> when telling stories<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"normal\"><span lang=\"EN\">If your child displays some or all of the above traits, he\/she may possess a good linguistic IQ.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span lang=\"EN\">How to encourage Linguistic-Verbal IQ?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"normal\"><span lang=\"EN\">Children need a good amount of affection and mental stimulation from their parents and caregivers. Parents in turn want to help their child reach their full potential.The following techniques can teach them how to channel their thoughts and use their talents productively.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>1.Talk to Them<\/h4>\n<p class=\"normal\"><span lang=\"EN\">This isn&#8217;t only important for children; it is equally as effective in toddlers. When a child reaches the age of <strong>18-24<\/strong> months old, vocabulary is increasing by leaps and bounds every day. <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">Explain to your child <em>what<\/em> you are doing as you are doing it and give them time to try to respond using<em> words <\/em>and<em> expressions<\/em>. This not only <em>enriches vocabulary<\/em>,but also interactions. Your child will eventually grow to love sharing thoughts with you all while enhancing their verbal intelligence.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>2. Read Out Bedtime stories<\/h4>\n<p class=\"normal\"><span lang=\"EN\">This is a technique that helps set a bedtime routine as well as growing love for <em>literature<\/em>. Reading to your child from the first day of life is <em>key<\/em> in raising a book lover. As time goes on your baby\/toddler\/preschooler will start anticipating this time of the day enthusiastically. Your child can help pick out a book to read. This develops <em>confidence<\/em> and a sense that his\/her opinion is valued. The upsides are abundant with this habit.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>3. Book of the Week<\/h4>\n<p>This activity is great for children beginning to read on their own. The child gets to pick a weekly book. Parents and children read the book and do activities based on what the book is about, throughout the week.<\/p>\n<p>This includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Talking about what they thought of the book, highlighting the morals<\/li>\n<li>Dressing up as their favourite character from the book<\/li>\n<li>Putting on a play of the book for the family<\/li>\n<li>Practice reading and writing new words learnt from the book<\/li>\n<li>Comprehension skills; asking simple questions about the book from the child<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Library and Bookstore Exposure<\/h3>\n<p class=\"normal\"><span lang=\"EN\">Two of the favourite places a <em>literary enthusiast<\/em> wants to be is a<em> library<\/em> and a<em> bookstore<\/em>. Endless access to<em> literature<\/em> and a quiet place to read uninterrupted is a dream come true for book readers. Why not show this to your child from a young age? Plan a trip to a library or bookstore once in a month and help your child pick out an age appropriate book for themselves. This exposes your child to different types of <em>writing styles <\/em>and<em> genres<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"normal\"><span lang=\"EN\">When it comes to learning and development in the early years, every child has their own pace. Some children reach specific milestones earlier or later than their age fellows; it&#8217;s not a race or a contest.
