Today\u2019s session focuses solely on the importance of\u00a0<em>Digital Literacy\u00a0<\/em>in fighting poverty.<\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fmydaastan%2Fvideos%2F3002465666704338%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Fighting Poverty through Digital Literacy- A case study of KhudKaar House<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wardah Noor, a law student from LUMS can be considered as the face of the current generation\u2019s fight against poverty. Her foundation, <a href=\"https:\/\/khudkaar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KhudKaar<\/a>, is seen as a symbol of resistance and change in a world helplessly stuck in the poverty cycle. It aspires to change lives within the <strong>6<\/strong> month time frame through its vocational program.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>KhudKaar and Poverty<\/h2>\n<p>Ms. Noor has transformed her lived experiences into a wonderful alternate reality for the residents of Layyah.\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, by choosing to opt for a more sustainable model of poverty alleviation, KhudKaar aims to change lives. Khudkaar intends to do that by introducing students and families to <strong>skills<\/strong>, <strong>exposure<\/strong> and a <strong>networking system<\/strong>. Ms. Noor\u2019s selfless drive to better the living conditions of Layyah\u00a0is undeniable. For instance, did you know that a part of the community center is within her own house?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She did face some resistance initially from her family when she deviated from the stable path of <strong>MBBS<\/strong>. However, they soon came to terms with her career choice and are incredibly supportive of her in all aspects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Digital Literacy- A weapon against Poverty<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Within the poverty alleviation program, digital literacy is heavily emphasized by KhudKaar. This significance is also derived from Ms. Noor\u2019s own personal experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0\u201cIf a person is digitally literate He\/She Would not know how to brand themselves\u201d. \u2013 Wardah Noor<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ms. Noor uses her digital platforms to amplify the voices of the downtrodden. In addition, she hopes to empower the youth of Layyah with the same skillset as it would allow them to\u00a0<\/span><b>finally break the cycle.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<h2>Poverty, the Government and the People<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although it has only been 3 months since the inception of KhudKaar community center, Ms. Noor has a comprehensive long term plan. By the end of <strong>2030<\/strong> she hopes to encourage the creation of <strong>small businesses<\/strong> and <strong>agricultural research labs<\/strong>. Increase in digital literacy and creating platforms for <em>artists<\/em> to sell their art are also on her priority list.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, in order to bring forth change on a wider scale, dialogue with the government has been started. On a policy level, the team is in contact with the district administration. Likewise,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0in terms of funding they are vying for collaboration with the <strong>Punjab Skills Development Fund<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Wardah Noor\u2019s Message<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ms. Noor ends the talk on the note that there are almost harmful levels of self-interest present in individuals today while thinking about their careers.
