He teaches English to children as a second language in places as far flung as <strong>China<\/strong>. He learnt of people\u2019s desire to learn English while working as a <strong>cruise director<\/strong>. Following that he got accredited through various courses and embarked on his teaching journey.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In conversation with David Morgan, an <strong>educationalist<\/strong> &#8211; we explore the questions oft faced in the education sector. These questions primarily focus on teaching and its surrounding discourse. Special attention is given to the role <strong>COVID<\/strong> has played in reshaping the <strong>traditional teaching models<\/strong>, as well as the role of the teachers themselves within the process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fmydaastan%2Fvideos%2F157262579729769%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>To Teach or Not to Teach?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teaching is a job that many find satisfying and fulfilling. However the way many individuals engage in it is through<\/span><b> \u201cpartly choice, mostly chance\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, regardless of how fulfilling the profession may be certain limitations do exist. These limitations can devalue the teaching experience. As Mr. Morgan states\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here the role of the teacher becomes important, i.e. whether they are able to give individual attention to students and cater to their questions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>The impact of COVID on Teaching<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to the traditional limitations, the pandemic is a new dimension to it. According to Mr. Morgan, online teaching is resulting in disengagement to a large extent. Thus whenever he streams his own classes, he aims to make them<i> \u201cinteractive with videos on YouTube and images to refocus students\u201d<\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, it is also important to note that much of the adaptation seen due to the pandemic has been in favour of technology. This is not a suitable mode for Pakistanis as many in Pakistan do not have access to internet or laptops.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Teaching the Teacher<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the change in situation, the teacher also has to learn to adapt. Hereby Mr. Morgan talks of his experiences in having to learn <\/span><b>Zoom<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in order to conduct productive online classes. Alongside that, one is also constantly learning how to best keep the students engaged in an online setting.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Further, it is important for the teacher to learn these things because COVID is here to stay, and the future of teaching looks more <\/span><b>hybrid<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than reverting to complete normalcy.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The emphasis is placed on looking at issues through a <\/span><b>multicultural lens<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as Mr. Morgan\u2019s experiences in Europe differed from the situation in Pakistan- it is only through acknowledging the differences that an effective solution can be reached.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You can stream the full episode <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/mydaastan\/videos\/157262579729769\/?__so__=channel_tab&amp;__rv__=all_videos_card\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.
