Today at Daastan<\/a>, we are opening a window to the past and remembering the childhood favourites<\/em>. The kids of late 1990<\/strong>s and\u00a0<\/em>early 2000<\/strong>s<\/em> are now beyond their teenage years and often feel nostalgic<\/em> when looking back. Therefore, to relive some of the memorable<\/em> literary moments of Gen Z<\/em>, we have made a list of children books that are always a top shelf favourite. From C.S Lewis\u2019 fantastical works to Jeff Kinney\u2019s gripping world of tweens, we are revisiting it all!<\/p>\n

The Chronicles of Narnia \u2013 C.S Lewis<\/h2>\n

Long before the days of J.K Rowlings\u2019\u00a0Harry Potter,<\/em>\u00a0another fantasy series ruled the hearts of millions all around the world. As a matter of fact, after more than half a century it still continues to allure the readers.\u00a0The Chronicles of Narnia Series<\/em> by C.S Lewis<\/em> has been a staple not only in children\u2019s bookshelves but also in teens and adults. For Lewis\u2019 Narnia\u00a0<\/em>has been a realm filled with magical creatures, beautiful landscapes, unforgettable adventures and parallels between good and evil<\/em>.\u00a0Since its initial release in the 1950s<\/em>, the series has been\u00a0adapted for theatre, radio, film and even video games and graphic novels.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The story follows the adventures<\/em> of four children: Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie<\/em>. One day, they discover world of possibilities beyond their own hidden behind a wardrobe door. Upon treading into this magical world<\/i>, the children come across a talking Lion; Aslan, an evil witch, and some other mystical creatures.<\/i> These children soon take up new roles in the magical world of Narnia<\/i>, saving its inhabitants<\/i> and leaving behind a golden legacy.<\/i><\/p>\n

The Percy Jackson Series \u2013 Rick Riordan<\/h2>\n

For most of the Madeline Miller<\/em> and Natalie Haynes<\/em> fans, the love for Greek Mythology<\/em> took roots from Rick Riordan\u2019s The Percy Jackson Series<\/em>. The story behind the conception of this book series is wholesome<\/em>. It pays tribute to a father\u2019s love<\/em>. It all began when Riordan\u2019s son was studying Greek Mythology in second grade. His son, Haley<\/i> would ask him to tell him bedtime stories<\/i> about the Greek Mythology. However, after sometime Riordan ran out of stories to tell. To solve this problem, Haley suggested that Riordan make up new stories<\/i> for him with pre-existing characters<\/i> from the mythology. So, that\u2019s what Riordan did. Today those bedtime stories<\/i> turned novels<\/i> are a NewYork Times Bestseller<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The Percy Jackson \u2013 Rick Riordan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The series is set in the mid-2000s<\/em> and follows Percy Jackson, a young boy who finds he is a demigod son of Poseidon<\/em>. He discovers that because of an oath<\/em> taken by the Big Three (Poseidon, Zeus, Hades)<\/em>, his father abandons<\/em> him. His voyage through the terrifying mysterious regions<\/em> begins with his buddy Annabeth Chase<\/em> and his best friend and comrade Grover Underwood<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Diary of a Wimpy Kid \u2013 Jeff Kinney<\/h2>\n

The kids of early 2000s<\/em> were not just fond of diary writing<\/em> themselves but they also loved peaking into others journals<\/em>. It was because of curiosity<\/em> and a\u00a0sense of belonging<\/em>, that author<\/em> and cartoonist Jeff Kinney<\/em> released the \u201cDiary of Wimpy Kid\u201d<\/em> series. The author initially released an online version in 2004<\/em>, in the form of daily entries<\/em>. However, soon it became clear the online entries were not enough and kids wanted to know more about the daily life of\u00a0Greg Heffley.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid \u2013 Jeff Kinney<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The series narrates the story of arrogant<\/i> and lazy Greg Heffly<\/i> and his best friend\u00a0Rowley Jefferson\u00a0<\/i>in the form of\u00a0diary entries and illustrations<\/i>. Both the kids are young<\/i> and naive<\/i> so they often find themselves in troublesome situations. Their bad luck is usually brought upon by Greg as he tries to manipulate<\/i>, and deceive<\/i> his way up the social ladder<\/i>. However, these diaries are not just about Greg\u2019s mischiefs<\/i>, they also carry lessons about loyalty, friendships, self-esteem and dreams.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n
