Non-fiction \u2013 An under appreciated genre<\/h2>\n

Before diving into the recommendations, we would like to give non-fiction its due credit. We understand that most people read to escape reality<\/em>. Therefore, the very term \u2018non-fiction\u2019<\/em> scares them away. However, while it\u2019s true that non-fiction pushes not the bounds of reality, but it definitely makes you reconsider your worldview<\/em>. From memoirs, biographies, encyclopaedias to anthologies and self-help books,<\/em> non-fiction has a lot to offer. Take this as a sign to pick up your first non-fiction book and maybe you\u2019ll be less skeptic of non-fiction than before.<\/p>\n

The Prince \u2013 Niccol\u00f3\u00a0Machiavelli<\/h2>\n

If you are someone who loves to watch period dramas<\/em>, you may know about The Medici.<\/em> In the last season of that drama, young Niccolo<\/em> makes an appearance as a spy<\/em> for Bernardi<\/em>, the advisor to Lorenzo de Medici<\/em>. Today the world knows him as Niccolo Machiavelli<\/em>. He was a 16th century Florentine Diplomat, historian and philosopher<\/em>. Niccolo compiled his political wisdom in a book named \u2018The Prince\u2019.<\/em> Since its release in the 16th<\/strong> century,<\/em> it is referred as an important political treatise<\/em>. Even though the book may not have much relevance in the 21st<\/strong> century politics<\/em> for its lack of consideration for morals<\/em>, one might find insights about the structure of politics in 16th century florence. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"Non-fiction\"<\/p>\n

The book focuses on the \u2018acquisition & preservation of power\u2019<\/i>. For Machiavelli, attaining glory means sometimes paying a price that maybe too high. Moreover, Machiavelli talks about the struggle for power as a gray notion. He also talks about the images of great men as something being misjudged<\/i> continually throughout the time.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Emperor of Maladies \u2013 Siddharta Mukherjee<\/h2>\n

The name of the book itself is self-explanatory<\/i>. \u201cEmperor of Maladies\u201d <\/i>traces the history of the life threatening disease,\u00a0cancer<\/i>. It covers the era from its inception<\/i> all the way to its cure<\/i> in the current times. The utterly talented author of the book, Siddharta Mukherjee<\/i> has carefully crafted this biography of cancer not only in terms of scientific accurac<\/i>y but also by approaching it humanely. For this purpose he has also received awards in the genre of \u2018scientific literature\u2019. <\/i><\/span><\/p>\n
