It is no secret that Austen is not only a critic<\/em> favourite but also a public<\/em> one. Her works were ahead of their time, encompassing themes like women empowerment<\/em>. Moreover, her characters are the epitome<\/em> of romance<\/em> and delicacy<\/em>. For many decades now, authors have tried to replicate the essence of \u2018Austenian\u2019<\/em> literature. Although, very few can attain the intricacy<\/em> of words, emotions and thought<\/em> like Austen but that does not stop the modernists<\/em> and post-modernists<\/em> from trying. To our surprise, these efforts have not totally been in vain. Many people enjoy the contemporary twist<\/em> to these regency era romances<\/em>. Therefore, we are here to provide the Jane Austen fan club a breath of fresh through these modern retellings.<\/p>\n

Pride, Prejudice and Other Flavours by Sonali Dev<\/h2>\n

Sonali Dev\u2019s desi take on the timeless classic tells the tale of the proud surgeon Trisha<\/i> and the prejudiced DJ Caine<\/i>. In this rewrite of Pride and Prejudice, Bollywood<\/i> meets Jane Austen<\/i>. Trisha Raje<\/i> is a neurosurgeon<\/i> whose family is Indian American royalty. Her father is an actual prince in India and her mother is a former Bollywood actress. Whereas, our Mr. Darcy<\/i>,\u00a0DJ turned to cooking to cope with the poverty<\/i> and racism<\/i> of his childhood in London<\/i>, where he was born to an Anglo-Indian<\/i> family. Dev\u2019s novel is a clever portrayal of class divisions, racism<\/i> and other pressing social matters.<\/p>\n

Instead, we are here to introduce you Sarah Dess\u2019 romantic<\/em> and mesmerising<\/em> novel that may or may not be another Austen\u2019s retelling.<\/p>\n
