Sana’s Journey as a Writer:

Sana Alvi shared:

“I have always been a writer at heart.”

Her writing journey began with poetry published in Dawn’s Young World magazine. At 16, she published her first novel, Vengeance, on Wattpad, where it received a positive response that encouraged her to continue writing.

She later wrote The Eyewitness, Snuffed Out, and The Golden Girl, available on Amazon.

Her latest novel, The Night She Drowned, is her fifth book and the first novel in the Velvet Vista case series, with the second part planned for release in 2027.

The Night She Drowned

During the interview, Sana Alvi shared an overview of her book.

The Night She Drowned” is the first installment in the Velvet Vista case series. At its center is the mysterious death of a 26-year-old woman found in the pool of the Velvet Vista Hotel, with five possible suspects under scrutiny.

It is a fast-paced mystery built on secrets, suspicion, and psychological tension. The story unfolds across two timelines: one tracing the victim’s life and the events that led her to that night, and the other following the investigation as each layer of truth is slowly uncovered.

As the story progresses, readers are invited to question every detail, every character, and every version of the truth.

Sana’s Love For Mystery

Sana has always been drawn to mysteries and suspense. According to Sana:

“It is a genre that keeps both the writer and the reader constantly engaged, always asking, “What happens next?”

The earliest and strongest influences of Sana was Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series. Growing up with these stories shaped her imagination and deepened her love for mystery and investigation.

This is not the first time she has explored suspense-driven storytelling; some of her earlier novels, including Vengeance and The Eyewitness, also carried shades of mystery and intrigue.

About the mystery genre, Sana shared:

“What draws me to this theme again and again is the unique relationship it creates with the reader. Mystery leaves room for curiosity, doubt, and anticipation.”

The Inspiration of Sana Alvi Behind “The Night She Drowned”

When asked about the inspiration behind The Night She Drowned, Sana responded:

“The Night She Drowned” was especially inspired by a criminal case I came across one night. The details stayed with me long after I had finished reading about it, and I found myself unable to sleep, replaying possibilities in my mind and wondering what might truly have happened. I wanted to write a story that would place readers in that same state of suspense, a story that would keep them thinking, questioning, and eagerly moving from one page to the next.”

The Role Of Daastan as a Book Publisher

The Night She Drowned” is published by Daastan, a leading publishing house in Pakistan that supports writers around the world.

This psychological murder mystery novel is available on the MeraQissa Bookstore, Daastan’s online bookstore, where readers can find and buy books from different authors.

Sana Alvi’s Experience with Daastan In Her Own Words

“Daastan played a deeply important role in turning a long-held dream into reality. From the moment I submitted my manuscript to the day I saw the finished book, the entire process felt guided, professional, and reassuring. Ommer, in particular, was consistently available to answer my questions and make the journey feel far less overwhelming.

At the beginning, I had two major concerns: the safety of my manuscript and the practical side of publishing. Daastan helped ease that fear by handling the process with professionalism and clarity. Ommer connected me with the editor and the designer, and the full process was managed efficiently through a single WhatsApp group, where I received regular updates, pictures, and videos related to my book.

Within four to five weeks, my manuscript was live on Meraqissa stores. Choosing Daastan for this book was one of the best decisions I made, and it is a partnership I would gladly choose again for my future work.”

Key Takeaways of The Night She Drowned

The Night She Drowned” is a must-read for anyone who enjoys suspense, criminal investigations, and layered mystery. It is a book meant to keep readers curious until the very end, but beyond suspense, it also explores deeper truths about human nature.

Sana Alvi talked about the central idea of the novel:

“One of the central ideas in the novel is that power often shapes outcomes more than we would like to admit. No person is entirely good or entirely evil; we all exist somewhere between light and shadow. Another important thread is trauma, and finally, love not only in the romantic sense, but as care, presence, and the way we make others feel seen, safe, and valued.”

She explained that it is not only a mystery to be solved, but also a story that invites readers to reflect on justice, pain, love, and the complexity of being human.

Sana Alvi’s Message For Readers

To my readers, I would like to say this: if you have spent even a small portion of your time reading my words, you hold a very special place in my heart.

“Time is one of the most precious gifts anyone can offer, and I never take it lightly when someone chooses to spend theirs on my work.”

And to readers in general, I would say: please keep reading. In a world increasingly shaped by social media, short-form content, and constant distraction, books remain one of the most meaningful ways to stay connected to depth. Reading opens the mind to different places, perspectives, and schools of thought that we may never encounter otherwise.

“Not everyone has the chance to travel far, but through books, we can all cross borders.”

It deepens empathy, broadens understanding, and sharpens intellect in ways few things can
